ABOUT

In March 2020, several organizations in the Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro (SAW) region joined together to disburse critical funding and resources to underserved communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, including those experiencing housing insecurity. As the short-term impacts of the pandemic began to lessen, the group turned their attention toward our region’s more persistent housing challenges that remained, from addressing homelessness to providing accessible housing to our local workforce.

The SAW HOUSING Leadership COMMITTEE

The SAW Housing Leadership Committee is a collaborative partnership dedicated to addressing housing insecurity in Staunton, Augusta County, and Waynesboro. By leveraging the expertise and resources of our member organizations, we work to create sustainable solutions that ensure safe, affordable, and stable housing for all.

We pursue this mission by:

  • Empowering Residents (Inspired by CAPSAW): Providing resources and strategic support to help low-income individuals and families overcome barriers to stable housing.

  • Strengthening Economic Foundations (Inspired by the Shenandoah Valley Partnership): Encouraging economic growth and workforce development to increase housing affordability and long-term stability.

  • Enhancing Support Services (Inspired by Valley Community Services Board): Addressing the intersection of housing insecurity with behavioral health, developmental disabilities, and substance use, ensuring that housing solutions include necessary wraparound services.

  • Fostering Community Investment (Inspired by the Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge): Mobilizing philanthropic support to fund housing initiatives, create housing opportunities, and invest in the well-being of our community.

  • Advancing Regional Planning and Policy (Inspired by the Central Shenandoah Planning District Commission): Developing innovative, data-driven housing policies and strategies that align with regional needs and long-term sustainability.

  • Promoting Health and Stability (Inspired by the Augusta Health Foundation): Recognizing the connection between housing and health, we support initiatives that provide safe, stable housing as a foundation for overall well-being.

Through collaboration, education, and action, we aim to create a future where housing is not a privilege, but a foundation for opportunity, dignity, and community prosperity.
